09/11/2004 Guinness to woo regulars with free pint coupons
A QUARTER of a million free pints of Guinness are to be distributed to loyal customers in a bid to woo them back to their 'local' in the wake of the smoking ban and falling drink sales.
Diageo, the drink's parent company, is giving two free pint vouchers to anyone signed up as a Guinness regular by their publican.
The vouchers will be redeemable only in the local pub specified. Diageo plans to bring in the opportunity up to four times a year throughout the 32 counties.
This is not the first time Guinness has given away the vouchers, but a new aspect this time is that publicans will be the ones to approach the customer and to submit the details to the company.
Guinness sales have dipped in recent years, with a 6pc fall in the first half of 2004. However, a Guinness spokeswoman claimed the campaign was about rewarding loyalty. She said that while Guinness is still drunk by every age bracket, there was more choice now.
