The Irish Independent says a Dublin pub complex has been sold for more than €20m in what it says is the biggest licensed premises deal on record. The Old Orchard Inn complex in Rathfarnham was sold by David Lavin, who is retiring.
The paper says it is believed to have been secured by a leading publican - widely rumoured in the marketplace last night to be leading publican Charlie Chawke. The award-winning complex was put on the market for sale by tender through joint agents CBRE Gunne and McDonald Brothers. The original price guideline was €15m-plus.
The Indo says pubs specialist John Ryan of CBRE Gunne confirmed the sale yesterday, but would not comment on either the sale price or the buyer.
