THE renowned Abbey Tavern in Howth, Co Dublin will be put under the hammer on October 26 through CBRE Gunne.
The Abbey Tavern - which dates back to the 16th Century - is a landmark pub, restaurant and entertainment venue situated on Abbey Street in the heart of Howth village.
The property is being sold on behalf of James Scott-Lennon who is retiring to pursue other business interests. The pub has won many awards over the years for its food, drink and service. It has been frequented by celebrities from Ted Kennedy, Tip O'Neill, and Elizabeth Taylor to Garth Brooks, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones.
According to pubs specialist John Ryan of CBREG, the sale "represents a once off opportunity to acquire an outstanding and vibrant licensed premises, restaurant and Irish entertainment venue which last came on the market over 60 years ago".
Accommodation comprises over 650 sq. m. and includes ground floor bar, The Barn function room, fully fitted catering kitchen plus keg store. While no reserve has been issued, market sources suggest the property could sell for around €5.5m.
